Is This Meet For Me?

 Swim Meets Are you Ready?

As the swim family, you need to decide if you are interested in swimming in a meet and be proactive in signing up.  If you are interested but are not sure your swimmer is ready, talk to your coach.  Coaches try not to push or hype meets because we know how expensive they can get and it needs to be a family decision.  Once you sign up the Head Coach, with the input of the coaching staff, will decide what events are best for the swimmer.  If there are specific events you want to suggest please do but keep in mind the coaches may be working on certain goals of which you are not always aware.  As always feel free to discuss with coaches before or after practice.  (For safety and insurance reasons parents are not allowed on deck during practice.)

Are you Eligible?

Age Group & Open Meets are offered in "B" (slowest), "BB", and "A" through "AAAA" (fastest) time classifications. These classifications have nationally established time standards. For example, a swimmer must have achieved an "A" time to be eligible to swim that particular event in an "A" or faster meet. Detailed eligibility information is provided in the meet announcement (linked via our website).  These meets are split into morning and afternoon sessions based on age or gender. Including the warm-up period prior to the competition, the morning session generally runs from 7:00 a.m. to noon and the afternoon session generally runs from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. These are general time frames; each meet is different so please check your meet information so your swimmer arrives on time for warm-ups.

How to sign-up Meet Entry Process

CBAC relies heavily on the web for our meet entry process.  CBAC will try to update families via email for upcoming meets but, if you are interested, you need to keep your eye on our web site.  When the information becomes available CBAC will link to event schedules and post a sign-up list.  Deadlines for meets are usually 3 weeks prior to a meet but sometimes can be more!  CBAC allows itself 1o days to get the interested swimmers to the coaches to determine which events they want for the swimmer, enter this into the database, submit to opposing team, and have the check sent (required by most teams before they will enter our swimmers.)  Meets can only have a certain number of swimmers in them to avoid having sessions run too long. CBAC must get their entries in early to avoid being shut out of meets that are oversubscribed.  The hosting team then allows themselves to collect the many team entries and seed the meet.  Often host teams will put items of interest (like local hotels, restaurants, and additional meet details) on their web sites so you may want to check that out too.
