Coach Julio
Zarate is
in his sixth year of coaching Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club. Coach
Julio began his coaching carrier the summer of 1999 as an assistant
coach for the Flower Hill Dolphins swim team, and Curl-Burke Swim
Club. As the Head coach of Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club Coach
Julio will oversee all of the C.B.A.C. training groups as well as
the Pre team. Coach Julio will work primarily with the senior level
group.
As
an age group swimmer, Coach Julio swam for Curl-Burke Swim Club.
While at Curl-Burke he trained with Olympians and World record
holders Tom Dolan, Markus Rogan, and Ed Moses. Coach Julio is a
former Curl-Burke team record holder and recipient of the Bunkey
Lewis Memorial scholarship given to one male and one female
graduating senior of Curl-Burke Swim Club that best exemplify
character, sportsmanship, and dedication to
swimming.
In
addition to coaching the Senior group swimmers at CBAC, Coach Julio
is an assistant coach for the St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Seahawks. Coach Julio finished his swimming career at St.
Mary’s College as the most decorated swimmer in school
history. Julio was nine time first team All-Conference, a three
time team MVP, one time coaches award winner, and CAC Rookie of the
year.
Most
recently Julio received an ASCA Fellowship. The
Fellows program is a year-long coach mentorship program, aimed at
developing the future coaching leaders of our sport. Each Fellow
has a year to complete a project designed to advanced the swimming
body of knowledge. His project will focus on NCAA
Swimming and what steps can be taken to protect, and preserve
college swim program across the
country.

Casey Brandt

Coach Casey
Brandt comes to CBAC an ASCA level 4 certified coach with
10 years of age group experience. He began coaching in the summer
leagues in Maryland, spent a year at a YMCA in Baltimore and
another as an assistant to his alma mater Loyola College. Coach
Brandt also worked for the Mariner Swim Club in Baltimore under his
former coach, Jan Mittemeyer. During his 3 years at Mariners, he
developed a training program for younger swimmers ages 9-13 and
produced several Maryland zone team qualifiers.
Most recently
Coach Brandt spent 3 years at Asphalt Green in New York City
working with the 10 - 13 year old age group swimmers. During his
time there, Coach Brandt had a 3 time National Record Holder and 6
time Metro LSC record holder, 5 Metro LSC record setting relays, 9
top 16 relays (including the #1 ranked 11-12 girls 400 free relay
in 2006), 3 individual top 16 swimmers and 9 individual Zone team
qualifiers.
In the spring
of 2007, Coach Brandt was named the Metropolitan Swimming Age Group
Coach of the Year for the 2006-2007 season.

Patrick Morris

Coach
Patrick Morris
is an ASCA Certified Level 2 coach. He has been coaching for
Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club since 2006 and, along with Coach Julio,
he has also been an assistant under Andre Barbins for the Saint
Mary’s Seahawks since 2007.
He started his
swimming career with Star Swimming (now Chesapeake Bay Aquatic
Club) at the age of 5. At the 1999 and 2000 Maryland All-Star
Meets he topped the Senior age group in multiple butterfly and IM
events qualifying him for the Maryland Zone Team. In summer
of 2000 Patrick placed top 3 in six of his eight events at the 2000
AAU Junior Olympics held in Central Florida. While attending
Saint Mary’s College he swam under Andre setting new team
records in the 200y butterfly and 400y IM.

Susan Shannon

Coach Susan
Shannon, a native of Pittsburgh, PA, is an ASCA Level
2 Certified swim coach. Susan started competitive
swimming at age 7, competing in age group swimming through 4 years
of college and several years of masters swimming. She
continues swimming laps today for the great
exercise! Her coaching experience
includes working with different levels of swimmers with
various summer league teams, age group and masters teams. She has
been coaching with CBAC since 2004 and currently coaches
the Red Hots group.
In addition to
coaching, Susan spent 12 years as an elementary school teacher.
Today, she works part time as a resource specialist in the Partners
for Success Resource Center for Families and Schools providing
resources and support for parents of children who receive special
education services.
The discipline
and hard work necessary for success in swimming has opened many
doors for Susan throughout her life. As a coach she truly enjoys
working with swimmers and watching them improve skills and make
friends with their teammates.

Sofia Sokolove

Coach Sofia Sokolove is
entering her sophomore year at St. Mary’s College. As a
freshman for the St. Mary’s Seahawks she broke two individual
team records(100 and 200 breaststroke) and two relay records(200
and 400 medley relay), and was CAC champion in both medley
relays.
Coach Sofia spent this last
summer as the head coach of the Bethesda Barracudas Swim Team in
the Montgomery County Swim League. This will be Coach Sofia’s
first year coaching with C.B.A.C. and we are happy to add her to
our staff.

Rachel Hotchko

Coach Rachel Hotchko is
entering her junior year at St. Mary’s College. Coach Rachel
is coming off here most successful year of swimming. She qualified
for the 2008 D-III NCAA National Championship Meet in the 100
butterfly. On her route to qualification she broke the S.M.C.M team
record in the 200 fly and was a member of four team record breaking
relays.
This will be Coach
Rachel’s first year coaching with C.B.A.C. and we are happy
to add her to our staff.

Rosa Trembour

Rosa Trembour is entering her Sophomore year at St. Mary's
College of Maryland. As a freshman for the St. Mary's Seahawks Rosa
posted personal bests in the 100 and 200 yard Breastroke events at
CAC Championships, making finals and consuls respectively. She is
also a representative for the varsity women's swim team on the St.
Mary's Student Athletic Advisory Board.
This past summer Rosa worked as the Assistant Head Coach for North
Chevy Chase Swim Team in the Montgomery County Swim League. She was
an MCSL swimmer for eleven years before graduating from Daleview
Pool in the summer of 2007. This will be Coach Rosa's first year
coaching with C.B.A.C. and we are happy to add her to our staff.

Patrick O'Dell

Coach
Pat O’Dell is in charge of keeping the CBAC
staff safety certified and is a substitute coach. Pat has
over 20 years experience coaching age group and masters level
swimming. Pat’s swimming and coaching career began at Town
Creek in the early 80’s. He eventually moved over to Patuxent
River NAS to become the Fitness and Aquatics Director. During his
tenure at Patuxent River he also coached the championship CAC St.
Mary’s College Seahawks. Pat also was the head coach for the
SMAC age group swim club and also started the SMAC masters swim
club in the early 90’s.
Even
though Pat left Patuxent River in 1997 to pursue a career at Life
Fitness, he has always maintained his close ties to Southern
Maryland swimming and aquatics. He currently is a certified
American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and AED Instructor Trainer and
volunteers his time to the Red Cross and Patuxent River NAS as
needed. He holds
numerous other fitness training certifications from ACSM and the
Cooper Institute. His daughter Savannah and son Chase are the
reason he now volunteers his time for CBAC and enjoys seeing them
swim competitively.
